MoU signed between EdUHK and HK Lacrosse Association to offer internship opportunities for BSc(SPSC) programme students
The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) and the Hong Kong Lacrosse Association (HKLA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) of cooperation on 24 March. The two signing parties of the MoU will provide students of the new UGC-funded Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Sports Science and Coaching (BSc(SPSC)) programme with internship and job opportunities in the Greater Bay Area.
To be launched this coming September, the new BSc(SPSC) programme will offer courses in sports sciences and technology, such as human movement analysis, motor skills, sports nutrition, mobile application programming, website development and big data analysis, to help students learn the necessary theories and skills requested by the profession. These purposely designed courses aim to cultivate students’ creativity, critical thinking, adaptability and inquiry skills.
Mr Raymond Fong, CEO of Hong Kong Lacrosse and China Lacrosse, said: “We are delighted to partner with EdUHK to provide the new courses. There is a rising trend of applying science and technology knowledge in the sports world. The new courses will help students to comprehensively master the required theories and skills in the related disciplines. As our society places increasing emphasis on ‘science-based’ coaching methods, graduates of these courses will enjoy more employment opportunities, thereby elevating the professional standards and social status of sports coaches.”
Dr Andy Tse Choi-yeung, Associate Professor and Acting Head of the Department of Health and Physical Education, represented EdUHK when signing the MoU. He said, “EdUHK is excited to be a partner of HKLA. As an organisation with great development potential, the association has held its annual ‘Hong Kong Lacrosse Open’ event since 2014. In just a few years, the competition has grown popular in Asia, becoming an important sporting event in the region.
“We also noticed that the Hong Kong Lacrosse Team has been actively participating in different international competitions in recent years. The experiences that players have accumulated through these competitions will provide us with a lot of information for scientific research. We hope that the cooperation between the two parties will contribute to the development of sports and lacrosse in Hong Kong.”
HKLA hopes to enhance the performance of the Hong Kong Lacrosse Team through scientific research and introduce this sport to more students through collaboration with EdUHK.
